Sacha De Carlo

Sacha was born September the 27th, 1974, in Locarno, a small town in the southern Alps of Canton Ticino. It's right in the heart of Europe, in a small but very exciting and interesting country... Switzerland.

After graduating in Biology and Physics at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, he pursued his scientific career and obtained a PhD in Biophysics. He left his home country and he decided to cross the Atlantic and go to California. He spent 3 years working in the Nogales Lab at U.C. Berkeley in the field of molecular biophysics and trying to characterize a molecular motor involved in the activation of prokaryotic transcription, the two-component response regulator, enhancer-binding protein NtrC. He's now pursuing this work at the University of Colorado at Boulder in collaboration with Prof B. Tracy Nixon at Penn State University.

Sacha's wife Hlaing is a pharmacist and she's originally from Burma, but her family lives in Philadelphia. Sacha's sister Nadja is 3 yrs older and lives in the german part of Switzerland, near Olten, with her husband Dani and her children Yannik (8 yrs old), Cédric (4 year old) and Jorik (2 y.o.). Nadja is working in Aarau as a specialized nurse at the intensive care service of the Kantonsspital Aarau. Dani works for Camille-Bloch, a company that produces very good swiss CHOCOLATE (yummy...).

Sacha's parents Piera and Leo live in Someo, a small village in Maggia valley. Nevertheless they spend quite a lot of time traveling, especially in Italy, where they bought and restored a house on the Costa Adriatica, in Pineto.
